General information

The Lisbon Blockchain Winter School is open to the scientific community and industry enthusiasts that look forward to deepening their knowledge in Blockchain. We especially encourage PhD students who are in the beginning of their studies to apply.

For industry participants we believe this winter school is more valuable for technical IT professionals with some experience with software development and non IT professionals that work in the tech industry.

Location and programme

The Winter School will take place at the facilities of Instituto Superior Técnico - Alameda, Lisbon. The programme includes:

• Lectures: covering the main topics of Blockchain and its applications.
• Hands-on laboratory sessions: with tutorials on developing and run smart contracts and experi with blockchain applications.
• Social event: with all the participants of the Winter School to promote collaboration and networking. (reception cocktail, dinner, transportation provided)
• Keynotes: with Blockchain experts from industry and academia.
• Panel discussion session: participants from academia and industry discuss the adoption of blockchain technology.
• Poster session: winter school participants are welcome to present their ongoing work to collect valuable feedback, in particular graduate students.

The fee covers:

• Registration and participation in the event
• Lunch, coffee breaks and snacks (10 – 14 February)
• Welcome reception, social cocktail, and social dinner (including transportation from the school venue to the social event)
• Winter school materials, including a LxBWS certificate of attendance.

Poster session

Winter school participants are welcome to present their ongoing work to collect valuable feedback, in particular graduate students. A poster template available here should be used. The poster template layout is already pre-defined for an A0 print (85cm x 120cm).

LxBWS Grants

A limited number of LxBWS grants will be available for students and/or junior researchers (researchers who have concluded the Ph.D. in the last 5 years)  and will fully cover the registration fee. Applicants who want to be considered for an LxBWS should fill in the application form accordingly. The LxBWS scientific committee will evaluate the academic and professional experience of the candidate; the motivation of the candidate expressed in the letter of interest; and the recommendation letter that needs to be provided. 

Application procedure

All interested students need to apply by November 9th, 2024. The application must include a short bio (max. 250 words) and a letter of interest (max. 500 words). Click here to fill out the application form.

Up to 75–100 attendees will be offered a spot at the Winter School. All applications will be notified by November 15th 2024.
